I set out to prove this theory by taking a bunch of 4 bananas and splitting it into two. A good way to keep your bananas alive for longer is to store them in the fridge once the peels lose their yellow color. To keep bananas fresh for longer wrap the stems in cling film to stop the ethylene gas from getting to the rest of the fruit and ripening it too quickly. The best way to keep bananas fresh green and firm is to tightly wrap them in plastic.
Wrapping your bananas in cling wrap will help slow the ripening process and keep your bananas fresh for 3 4 days longer than if you don t wrap them. They re picked while still green then slowly ripen over time to reach that bright yellow we love. To keep a bunch of bananas fresh for longer wrap the stems in some plastic wrap. Either way keep your bananas at room temperature while they ripen on the hook.
And i am not just making this stuff up here is the science behind it. The peels may darken but the flesh will not be affected. To make them last the longest split the bunch into single bananas and wrap each stem individually. This will protect them from air exposure reducing the rate of ripening and will keep them green longer.
