Cream cheese is a dairy product and like milk it will spoil. If cream cheese is exposed to temperatures above 40 f for an extended period it can spoil quickly. An unopened cream cheese will last about one month after the sell by date on the packaging or approximately 10 to 14 days after opened.
However if the temperature is above 90 degrees fahrenheit cream cheese can only be left out for one hour. Individual expiration dates for cream cheese depend on a variety of different factors including how it is stored. Cream cheese that is opened and exposed to room temperature should not sit out for more than 2 hours. On the contrary foil wrapped cream cheese can sit up to two months.
